About the Program
The Electronics Technology program at Wallace State is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in diverse areas in the field of electronics with a solid foundation for early advancement and promotion. Teaching is accomplished by traditional lecture and demonstration in the classroom as well as using a hybrid format of computer based and web based instruction. Hands-on laboratory exercises reinforce concepts covered in the courses and strengthen the concepts by adding real world troubleshooting, maintenance and repair experiences.
Career Outlook
Graduates from the Electronics Technology program are electronic technicians and are
qualified (depending on the option completed) to enter any area of the workforce that
requires knowledge and understanding of basic electronics principles, such as: biomedical
technician, industrial electronic technician, communications technician, power generation
and maintenance or repair technician. From robotics and industrial maintenance technicians
to biomedical equipment technicians to communications and repair technicians, the
basic concepts of electricity and electronics, as well as the more advanced classes
within the program, will ensure a promising future for graduates in almost any advanced
technical field.
Examples of jobs that require this degree are: Nuclear Power plant operators and maintenance,
Electronics Technician, Engineering Technician, Biomedical Equipment Technician and
Communications Technician. The spectrum of jobs available to graduates is extremely
diverse.
Opportunities are best for students that complete an associates in applied science
degree, but a certificate is offered. As technology becomes more and more sophisticated,
employers will continue to seek those who are skilled in the latest technologies and
are prepared to learn and work with emerging technologies.
Median annual wages for individuals in the field in 2017 were $55,360, with the highest 10 percent of electronics technicians earning more than $85,230. (Source: U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics)
